Indications
- Dandruff: Effectively treats and prevents dandruff caused by fungal overgrowth.
- Seborrheic Dermatitis: Reduces inflammation and flaking of the scalp.
- Tinea Versicolor (off-label): Sometimes used for fungal skin infections.

- Ketoconazole works by inhibiting fungal cell membrane synthesis, disrupting fungal growth and eliminating Malassezia yeast – a common cause of dandruff and scalp irritation.
- Form: Topical shampoo
- Frequency:
- Dandruff: Use twice weekly for 2–4 weeks
- Maintenance: Once every 1–2 weeks to prevent relapse
- Application:
- Apply to wet hair, lather, leave for 3–5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
- Avoid contact with eyes.
- Common:
- Itching or irritation at the application site
- Dry or oily hair
- Hair texture changes
- Serious (rare):
- Scalp blistering or allergic reactions
- Hair discoloration (especially if chemically treated or gray)
