Indications

Herpezine is used in the treatment of:

  • Herpes labialis (cold sores) on the lips and face
  • HSV-1 infections in adults and children
  • Initial and recurrent outbreaks of herpes simplex virus
Mechanism of Action
  • Aciclovir is an antiviral agent that:
    • Inhibits the replication of herpes simplex virus DNA
    • Reduces the duration and severity of outbreaks
    • Helps heal cold sores faster and prevent new lesion formation
Dosage and Administration
  • Form: Topical cream
  • Application:
    • Apply a thin layer to affected area 5 times daily (every 4 hours) for 5–10 days
    • Start treatment as soon as symptoms appear (tingling, itching, or redness)
    • For external use only
Side Effects
  • Common:
    • Mild burning or stinging at application site
    • Dryness or flaking of the skin
    • Itching or redness
  • Serious (rare):
    • Rash
    • Hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., swelling or allergic dermatitis)
Contraindications
  • Known hypersensitivity to aciclovir or any component of the cream
  • Do not apply to mucous membranes (e.g., eyes, inside mouth, or genitals)

Information

Warnings and Precautions:

  • Do not use for genital herpes or in the eyes
  • Wash hands before and after application
  • Avoid contact with others during active outbreak
  • Not a cure for herpes; helps manage symptoms

Drug Interactions:

  • No significant interactions with topical aciclovir
  • Can be used alongside oral antiviral therapies as advised by a healthcare provider
