Drug Class: Second-generation H1 histamine receptor antagonist

Indications
- Allergic rhinitis (hay fever): sneezing, nasal congestion, runny nose, itchy eyes/nose
- Chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives)
- Other skin allergies: itching, rash, allergic dermatitis
- Seasonal or perennial allergy symptoms

- Selectively blocks peripheral H1 histamine receptors
- Reduces histamine-mediated allergic responses
- Does not cross the blood–brain barrier significantly → minimal sedation compared to first-generation antihistamines
- Form: Oral tablet
- Strength: 10 mg
- Adults and children ≥12 years: 10 mg once daily
- Children 2–11 years: Lower dose or syrup form (consult specific pediatric dosing)
- Can be taken with or without food
- Common:
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Dry mouth
- Rare:
- Drowsiness (less common than with first-generation antihistamines)
- Nervousness or increased appetite
- Allergic reaction (very rare)
- Known hypersensitivity to loratadine or any tablet components
- Severe liver impairment (adjust dose)
